Short Bio
Prof Hussain Imam is a paediatric neurologist who served in the Ministry of Health for 40 years before joining RUMC. He was previously the head of Paediatric services in the Ministry of Health Malaysia for 13 years prior to his retirement.
Prof Hussain played a pivotal role in the introduction of the Hemophilus influenzae B vaccine into the National Immunization Program following his research on non-traumatic coma and the incidence of meningitis in Malaysian children. He was also the Principal Investigator for Malaysia during the multinational CYD14 trial on Sanofi’s dengue vaccine, Dengvaxia.
Over the years he has trained 12 pediatric neurologist and has overseen the expansion of paediatric neurology services to cover most of the states in Malaysia.
He has overseen 5 editions of “Paediatric Protocols for Malaysian Hospitals” as chief editor.

Research Interests
Prof Hussain is currently doing work on the impact of infant nutrition in preventing neurodisability. He is also studying secular trends in the etiology of Acute Flaccid Paralysis in Malaysia.

Analysis of Acute Flaccid Paralysis cases reported to the Ministry of Health from 2005 to 2025.
