What is One Health ?
The World Health Organisation and Centre for Disease Control have identified zoonotic infections as a risk to human health as highlighted by diseases such as Ebola, SARS H5N1, COVID 19 and many more. The concept of One Health is an acknowledgement of the interplay between human, animal and environmental health. A One Health network is currently encouraging dialogue and collaboration between the three health areas worldwide. This is your opportunity to learn and gain experience in the One Health field.
Programme Information
This module consists of a 14-day intensive field course run in Penang and the Temenggor Lake basin which hosts one of the oldest rainforests in the world. This module will expose the participants to a unique and fruitful synergy of traditionally separate disciplines of environmental, animal health and human health. This will show the participants the importance of collaboration in solving intractable human- animal-environment problems and give the participants the understanding and knowledge to work with other disciplines.
The course is designed to field-focus and introduce participants to the central components and conceptual frameworks that underlie and unify the three disciplines. The unit goals & learning outcomes are aimed at instilling in participants an appreciation of interdisciplinary nature of ecosystem, animal and human health and giving participants the tools to work in cross-disciplinary fields.
