Foundation in Science Programme FAQs
1. What is the Foundation in Science programme at RUMC?
The Foundation in Science (FIS) programme at RCSI & UCD Malaysia Campus (RUMC) is a one-year pre-university course designed to prepare students for entry into medical school. It provides a solid foundation in the sciences and nurtures essential skills in communication, critical thinking, and clinical awareness. The programme bridges secondary education and the academic demands of medical training, developing the knowledge, confidence, and study techniques required for a successful transition into higher education in medicine or health sciences.
2. What career opportunities are available with this programme?
The Foundation in Science programme serves primarily as a pathway to further studies in medicine and related disciplines. Students who complete the programme may progress into RUMC’s 5-Year Medical Degree depending on their CGPA. Those achieving a CGPA of 3.50 and above are eligible for direct entry into the medical programme, while those with a CGPA between 3.00 and 3.49 may enter the Pre-Medical Year. Students with a CGPA of 2.0 and above may pursue a BSc in Medical Informatics at RUMC. Additionally, there is a progression option into a UCD Science Degree in Dublin, Ireland, depending on stream-specific requirements. These progression routes offer access to careers in medicine, healthcare technology, and science-related fields.
