RUMC Researcher's Profile
MR. MAHESWARAN SOLAYAPPAN
BSC (HONS) IN BIOTECHNOLOGY (2009), AIMST UNIVERSITY
Mr Mahes research highlights focuses on the role of Tribbles genes, in various aspects of eukaryotic cell biology, with a focus on their implication in acute myeloid leukemia. TRIB is a pseudo serine/threonine kinase that acts as a scaffold or adaptor in both physiological and pathological processes.
It plays a crucial role in the degradation of C/EBPα and C/EBPβ, proteins involved in cell cycle arrest and myeloid differentiation. The study utilizes the CRISPR Cas-9 system to knockdown the TRIB 2 gene in Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) to investigate the differential expression of C/EBPα.
This approach highlights TRIB’s potential as a pathogenic mechanism in a subset of human AML, where its overexpression leads to the destabilization of C/EBPα through proteasome-dependent degradation, thereby opposing the effects of C/EBPα on myeloid cell differentiation.
