Short Bio
Dr. Lum Chia Yuee is a Master graduate of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and a PhD holder of Universiti Malaya (UM), where he studied the phase transitions of antiferroelectric liquid crystals, and antiferroelectric superlattices respectively. His studies are theoretical in nature, with the use of Landau theory to capture the physical behaviours and properties (e.g. polarization, thickness effect, dielectric susceptibility, polarization-electric field hysteresis loop, phase diagram, electrocaloric effect, etc) of these condensed matter systems. Commercial software, Mathematica was utilized extensively during his studies.

Research Interests
Dr Lum’s main research interests focus on the phase transitions of condensed matter, antiferroelectricity, and Landau theory.
Current Research & Projects
- Metabolomic Analysis of Malaysian Eurycoma longifolia Jack (Tongkat Ali) and Evaluation of Their Biological Activities, funded by RUMC, and collaborating with USM, aims to functionally separate and characterize volatile and non-volatile secondary metabolites in Tongkat Ali via gas chromatography and liquid chromatography. As a co-investigator.
- A study of localized mode of finite size of photonic crystals, funded by RUMC, intend to design chip size structure of photonic crystals that could trap photons, via computational simulation. As a co-investigator.
